“I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved.”

Romans 11:25-2 (KJV)

Critical race theory is the lie that all differences between two ethnic groups can be explained by appealing to racial hatred.

If anyone thought that critical race theory was a “useful tool” to understand why some populations are represented more than others in churches, they’d have to conclude that God and the Apostle Paul are racists given this passage in Romans.

And this goes beyond the stupidity of thinking that a church in 99.9% Western European suburbia is mostly white because of “racism”. In this case the reason is literally a hardening of hearts of a single ethnic group that God has permitted in order to accomplish something good.

The Gospel is about reconciling sinners to God. It’s not a skin color quota for churches, or a promise that the same percentage of all ethnic groups will respond equally to the Gospel, or that churches need “diversity”. If a church won’t let a Christian brother or sister attend because of their skin color, that’s sin, but actively seeking racial quotas for church attendance is also sin. And we know this is true on a grand scale for many reasons, this passage in Romans being one explicit example.

When churches adopt bad but popular philosophy like this, their mission changes. Given the whole point of the church is to “make disciples of all nations, teaching them what [Christ] has commanded”, a change in mission means churches ceasing to be churches at all.
